Sale Sunday 16 th November
 
The scene is set for a terrific final following last Sunday’s four semi finals of Greyhound Racing Victoria’s Vic Bonus Series at Sale. By far the most impressive was the Mark Delbridge trained, Flash Of Light – scoring by over 11 lengths in the best of the night 24.66 for the 440m, runner up to make the final was Miss Caruso.
 
Judge Me Not also scored by 11 lengths in her heat. Daughter of Collision-Black Satin stopped the clock at an excellent 24.89. Winning trainer, Gayle Elston is based in Sale.
Blazin’ Arch made the final with his second in the race for Dawn Johnston – newly elected Committee Member of the Sale Greyhound Club.
 
Fastest heat winner, Secret Skulls continued the form by winning his semi by 6 lengths in 24.85 for Kelvin Greenough. Bethanga made ground for second and a place in the big Maiden Final.
 
And Tuxedo Tess made it back to back heat and semi’s with a narrow victory over Gaelic Assassin in 25.54. Winner owned by Max Ackland and prepared at Keysborough by Kevin Paten.
 
Sunday’s final carries prizemoney of $9,000 ($6,000 to the winner) and the GOBIS Bonus of $800.

Very smart times were run by heat winners over the 520m at Sunday’s Sale greyhound card.
Heat one early in the night was an easy victory for Hot Puzzle in 29.60 and prepared at Devon Meadows by Paul Anderton.
Win TV heat was victory for Top End for Lang Lang trainer Pat Ryan in 29.55.
Rowville mentor, Robin Moore provided the heat three winner when favorite, Kingston Belle, led all the way in 29.53 and the Gippsland FM 104.7 final heat was also an all the way win by Spence’s Shadow for Peter Giles in 29.58.
It will ensure a great final next Sunday – the start of daylight savings.
 
Paul Anderton made it a double when Faze Me Not won over the 440m and Pat Ryan likewise with Blitzem Ryght scoring also in a grade 5 over the 440m.
 
Stayers feature – GOBIS Grade 5 Final over the 650m was run in a brilliant time of 37.42 thanks again to the flying Thane who broke 3 split records last week in his heat. 
Again, Thane led but was run down the eventful winner, Joop Muse for Bunyip trainer, Rosalyn Hume with Misty Fields getting up to run second just in front of Thane.
 
And the fast class Free for All over the 440m was won by recent Traralgon Cup Finalist, Boss Hat Trick prepared at Briagolong by Leonie Newton and Pud Jones.
Sunday 14 th September
 
Doubles to leading trainer’s Peter Giles and Chris Johannsen at Sunday’s Sale Greyhound meeting.
Giles opening and ending the 10 race TAB program with winners Artic Fox and the well supported Misty Sparks.
Johannsen leading in Rohan’s Article and Riverboat Lankan who led all the way to win the stayers feature over 650m in an excellent 37.57.
The pair dominates the Trainer of the Year for 2008 at Sale, Chris Johannsen has 38 wins and Peter Giles 27.
 
A good local win with Flipside leading all the way in the Grade 5 over 520m to record a 2 length win in 30.14 for the Pearsondale Syndicate and Kilmany trainer, Kerrie Leonard.
 
And Stratford owner/trainer Geoff Pitt saw his charge, Cool Ricky get back into the winners circle in a further Grade 5 520m in a good 29.83.
 
Salegrey’s Racing Syndicate notched up another winner for the year with Diamond Salute running on very well to score in the Grade 5 over 440m in 25.13 and prepared at Stradbroke by Steve Creighton.

Heats of the Coca Cola Sprint Championship and the GOBIS Grade 5 Final were the highlights of Sunday’s Sale greyhound meeting.
 
The flying Dancing Lights who has run a length outside the track record for the 440m was the fastest heat winner – stopping the clock at 24.73 in defeating Phoenix Shiraz who was having his first start for 4 months and Bassil Bodell.
Winner prepared at Huntley by Alisdair Armstrong.
 
Stoner Bale was a brilliant 5 length heat winner in 24.83 for Lara based Peter Hunt, over Morgan Bros for Carolyn Jones at Sale and Kingston Royale.
 
And $33 chance Beaut Conquest for Hazelwood North mentor, Charlie Galea won her heat in 25.46 over Red Amber and Shameless.
 
The box draw will play a big part in next Sunday’s rich final.
 
Denison owner/trainer, Ron Winter won the Bendigo Bank GOBIS Final with the recently acquired Omega Cowboy leading nearly all the way in 25.19 but was the only runner in the field not GOBIS qualified.
 
Toongabbie trainer, Pamela Tabone had a good night landing the quinella in race 4 with Wishes Come True and Stetson Shiraz. Half the win stake going to the Make A Wish Foundation – Gippsland.
And the kennel saluted with Black Eight in the Grade 5 over 520m in 30 seconds even.
 
Devon Meadows based, Chris Johannsen is the leading trainer at Sale this year and added to the tally with a double in the first two races with Jakoby and Slamma taking his tally to 36 wins.
 
Stratford owner/trainer, Norm Snowden has had a lot of patience with Avon Maddie and she’s repaying the kindness.
Daughter of Elgrando-Fingers Crossed won her maiden at Cranbourne earlier in the month and collected the Grade 5 first prize in the last at Sale – after missing the start going around the field and scoring by almost 4 lengths in 25.27.
Meeting Review 3 rd August 2008
 
Rosedale Racing Syndicate were all smiles after the running of the Arthur Hay Memorial, the main event on Sunday’s Sale Greyhound Racing card.
Celine Rose from the red trap led all the way to win the final over King Within and the favorite, Morgan Bros in a close finish.
Jeff Chignell puts the polish on the winner who stopped the clock at an excellent 29.78 for the 520m.
The Rosedale Syndicate collecting almost $3000 for the win including the $800 GOBIS Bonus.
Maffra’s Don Hay was on track to make the presentation in memory of his late father who was Track Manager at Sale for many years.
 
The name Clavarino has also been a household name at Sale and it continued on Sunday with Bomber Bruce winning a grade 5 over the 440m for Stephen Clavarino. Son of Bombastic Shiraz-Drummer Belle won by almost 4 lengths in 25.29.
 
Smurf’s Dream also led all the way to win the first leg of the quaddie for Nambrok owner/trainer Tony Tabone.
Greyhound ran favorite and recorded 29.84 in defeating Cool Ricky and Eternally Yours.
 
Salegrey’s Racing Syndicate were back in the winners circle with Cornish Lady scoring a strong win in the fast class Free for All sprint stopping the clock at 25.18 for Stradbroke trainer Steve Creighton.
The kennel also won with Groovy Master in the stayers feature over 650m getting up to defeat the favorite, Wait On Cooper and Klick in 37.91 for Amy and Melissa O’K eefe.
 
Other good local winners on the 12 race card were – Tee Kennelly for Sale’s John Elston, the promising Spring Gully for Toongabbie’s Pamela Tabone and Amity Rose prepared by Allan Ferguson.
 
Meeting Review 20 th July 2008
 
Heats of the Toby Wyeth Memorial highlighted greyhound racing at Sale on Sunday night.
First and second place getters from the 5 heats will contest next weeks final.
Former Australian Cup Finalist, Coulta Lil, got back into the winners circle in the final heat stopping the clock at 24.30 for the 440m. The Robert Britton trained Coulta Lil has now won almost $50,000 in stake earnings.
Other heat winners were – Fast Flash for Rosedale trainer, John Connor in 25.29.
Defective for Bunyip’s Paul Anderton in 25.34.
Shameless won by over 2 lengths for Pearcedale based Robert Crawford and Sleek Memories made the final in 25.43 also for Robert Britton.
 
There was a top stayer’s race on the card and Break The Ice for Chris Johannsen recorded 38.09 for the 650m in defeating Klick and Game On Girl after giving the leaders a start in the home straight.
 
Gippsland FM 104.7 Special Event saw Morgan Bros get up in the last few strides to defeat Stoner Bale and Handover Fiftys in 24.88. Winner trained at Fulham by Carolyn Jones who earlier in the night scored an impressive Maiden win the the first starter, He’s A Genius who got knocked down on the first turn but railed well to score going away.
 
3AW charity greyhound, Rohan’s Article also scored at his first start in 25.34 for Chris Johannsen.
Plenty of good happening’s at Sunday’s Sale greyhound meeting.
 
Finals of the Tommy Lanigan and Don Clavarino Memorials as well as a special tribute for Sale based trainer, Lenny Poore – who was given a surprise 80 th birthday earlier in the day.
The races were also named after greyhounds raced by the trio including Shyanza for Tommy Lanigan. As a young man in the 1920’s Tom won the Coursing Classic – St. Leger and the Oaks with Shyanza.
 
The Clavarino Memorial was a great local victory for the Salegreys Racing Syndicate with Salegreys Iscool running down the leader, Remo Grande to win running away by 2 lengths in the good time of 37.42 for the 650m, under 6 lengths outside the traced record. Salegreys Iscool is prepared at Tanjil South by Peter Giles.
 
The Lanigan Memorial over the 440m was a brilliant 5 length victory for Major Hurricane, after missing the start and railing all the way to defeat Butch Halsey, time for the 440m was 24.99. Frank Ryan at Koo Wee Rup putting the polish on the sprinter.
Apart from the $2000 first prize, both winners were GOBIS qualified that meant an extra $800 to connections.
 
The Lenny Poore 80th over the 440m was a win for the favorite, Raikou in 25.28 over Abby’s Hope and Perfect Hand.
Winner owned by Mark O’Connor and trained at Sale by Robert Wynd.

It was a great night of greyhound racing at Sale on Sunday.
Three main features saw two winners go close to breaking long standing track records. Gippsland Oaks, looked on as a stepping stone to the Laurels at Sandown was won by the flying Dancing Lights for Huntly owner/trainer Alisdair Armstrong. The daughter of Firefly Boy – Special Intent “blasted” her rivals away by over 9 lengths in a sensational 24.58 for the 440m, point 10 of a second outside the track record shared by Brilliant Lee and Paddy’s Flame of 24.48.
Omega Lilly for Barry Harper at Seaspray was runner up and Who Told Helen ran third.
 
Tommy Davidson Memorial for the stayers was a great win by Sky Hazzard who overcame early trouble to defeat the favorite, Bo Frazier and Sirocco Gold.
The Don Hazzard owned and trained greyhound won by over 4 lengths in a brilliant 37.18 for the 650m, point 11 of a second off the record – 37.07 held since December 2006 by Turbo Uno.
 
The Joe Rossin Memorial Derby Final saw victory go to the lightly raced Allegro Jay Jay for Pearcedale trainer Geoff Villinger.
In win number 5 from just 7 starts the son of No Intent – Piccola Prima ran 24.97 in defeating Shanlyn Pedro and Shamrock Moss.
Sunday 25 th May
 
Heats of both the Gippsland Oaks and Joe Rossin Memorial Derby highlighted Sunday’s Sale greyhound meeting. Outstanding run was by the flying Dancing Light who won her heat of the Oaks by 10 lengths in a top run of 24.54 for the 440m.
Owned and trained at Huntly by Alistair Armstrong, Dancing Light who has now won 9 from 15 defeated Joe’s Lexi and Thoughtful Miss.
 
Let It Snow got a narrow decision (a nose) to win Heat 2 of the Oaks over Hero Girl and Paddy’ Ember in 25.15. Winner prepared by Angela Langton at Anakie.
 
And the final heat was a win for Omega Lilly by 2 lengths in 25.09 over Who Told Helen and Dash Of Mystique.
“Lilly” will contest the final for Seaspray’s Heather and Barry Harper.
 
There were 4 heats of the Joe Rossin Memorial Derby. Winner’s being Major Slick in 24.81 for Traralgon’s Ted Dowsey. Allegro Jay Jay for Geoff Villinger in 24.87. Over Speeding stopped the clock at 24.81 and completed a double for Alistair Armstrong. And Woody Be Good made it four on the trot for Drouin mentor, David Curtain.
 
Two great finals coming up to highlight next Sunday’s Sale meeting.
Sunday 18 th May
 
Football fans would have probably had the quinella on race 2 at Sunday’s Sale greyhound meeting. Footy Statement, having his first race start defeated Bomber Bruce by a neck in a torrid battle down the straight in a time of 25.40 for the 440m.
Winner prepared at Yinnar by Mick Fearnley and the runner up trained at Sale by Stephen Clavarinio.  The quinella paid $6.60 for the dollar.
 
The main feature – GOBIS Grade 5 Final for the stayers was a win for Paragon Patch, the favorite who recorded the fastest heat time.
The Dominic Crisafi trained greyhound got home by the narrowest margin – a nose over Blue Serenade and Smooth Mover in 38.05 for the 650m.
 
Celine Rose for Rosedale mentor Jeff Chignell was one of only 2 winners to break 25 seconds for the 440m – winning a grade 5 by almost 5 lengths in 24.96 and paying odds of $22.
Woody Be Good recorded 24.93 in the mixed for Drouin based David Curtain.
 
Other local winners on the big 12 race card that had a terrific Tab turnover were – Miss Vendetta in the maiden for the Gieschen family at Maffra.
Nat’s Rising scored in a grade 5 sprint for Heyfield’s Nicole Brown, Dr. Bells rang loud and clear in the 520m grade 5 for Will McMahon at Darriman and Omega Cowboy scored in the last for Seaspray’s Barry & Heather Harper.
Sunday 27 th April
    
Rosedale trainer John Connor prepared Black Devil Jack to win one of the main features at Sunday’s Sale Greyhound meeting. The son of Go Wild Teddy-Token Ruby Rose owned by Tony Lombardi won the Jenni & Feather’s Engagement Grade 5 by almost 6 lengths over Black Sparrow and Paddy’s Meika.
Time for the 520m was an excellent 29.71.
 
Hero Girl was impressive in winning the opening event for Korrumburra mentor Reg Boyce. Daughter of Hotline Hero-Tanner Queen having only her second race start scored by over 8 lengths in 25.01 and best of the night for the 440m.
 
Seaspray’s Barry and Heather Harper continued on their winning way at Sale with Omega Thomas leading all the way to win his maiden by 6 lengths in 25.05.
 
Stayers Maiden was a dour struggle with the favorite Lookout Lenny railing in the straight to score over Arvo’s Diva and Kianna.
The winner trained by Tommy Currie at Chadstone is owned by the Distinctive Syndicate who pocket an extra $800 for the GOBIS Bonus race.
 
Ima Braydon for Dennis and Nicole Brown at Heyfield blew a great majority of the quaddie takers out of the water in the opening leg – winning in 25.30 and paying over $35.00
 
Life Of Brian won his 15 th race from 47 starts when se scored in the Mixed Stake over 440m over Faze Me Not and Wild Operator.
Winner trained at Toongabbie by Pam Tabone.
 
And Sale owner trainer Stephen Clavarino broke through for a win in the Maiden Sprint with Gone To Jackson leading virtually all the way in 25.15.
Sunday 20 th April
Stratford Football Netball Club supporters and sponsors had a big night out at Sunday’s Sale Greyhound meeting.
Whilst enjoying the racing the Club raised valuable funds with several activities during the night.
 
Greyhounds running for several good causes also won on the night, Buck’s Chance won the Mixed Stake for trainer Chris Johannsen and for Beyond Blue/Challenge Cancer and Cerebral Palsy Education Centre.
Wishes Come True railed strongly to score in a Grade 5 also over 440m in 25.36 for Toongabbie mentor Pam Tabone and the Make A Wish Foundation Gippsland.
Fifty per cent of stake earnings go to the respective organisations.
 
Seaspray husband and wife team of Barry & Heather Harper landed a running double – Omega Cowboy winning the GOBIS Maiden Final in 25.12 and Omega Lilly made it 2 from 2 in the grade 5 stopping the clock at 25.09.
Before moving to Seaspray the Harper’s lived at Darriman – close to Omega Navigational base in South Gippsland and named most of their greyhounds “Omega”.
 
Nat’s Pick bounced back from a heavy fall at Sale 4 weeks ago to win the last on the card from the red trap for Heyfield owner/trainer Dennis Brown.
Sunday 23 rd March
 
  As the great Johnny Ray once sang – Oh What a Night It Was – Such A Night.
And that summed up Easter Sunday at the Sale Greyhounds.
Before a large crowd the $7000 Easter Cup Final was the highlight of racing. Pure Grunt for Koo Wee Rup trainer, Clint Fulton led all the way to pocket the $5,000 winner’s purse for the Brute Syndicate.
Dee Riddler was runner up and Elgrando Hilton for the Reed Family at Yarram a good third.
Time for the 440m was an excellent 24.78.
 
Perfect weather made it a great family night and those that joined in the first Sale Greyhound Quaddie Club made a handsome profit.
For each $10 ticket the holder received over $35, the quaddie paying almost $4,000 for the dollar. The Quaddie Club will operate each Sunday at Sale.
 
And the bounce of the ball for the new AFL Footy season saw a new round of greyhounds racing at Sale for three charities during the home and away matches.
The first of those, Buck’s Chance won the opening event on the card trained by Chris Johannsen.
50% of the greyhounds’ prizemoney will be donated to Beyond Blue, Challenge Caner and Cerebral Palsy Education Centre.
 
The Johannsen Kennel led in a treble with promising Peak Condition winning his 8 th race in the Grade 5 440m and Lambo scoring from box 8 in the last on the card.
 
Beautiful Raymond Island on the Gippsland Lakes at Paynesville has a much bigger koala population than greyhounds, but owner/trainer Daniel Despard has a very handy galloper in Fast Flash. The son of Go Wild Teddy-Token Ruby Rose won the fast class Free for All over Boss Hat Trick and Organics in a time of 24.98 for the 440m trip.
Fast Flash has had only 23 race starts for 9 wins and 9 placings with close to $7000 in stake earnings.
“YARRAM FOOTBALL CLUB GOES TO THE DOGS”
 
Yarram Football Club, supporters and sponsors were guests of the Sale Greyhound Club at last Sunday’s Tab race meeting.
It was a great way of raising funds for the footy club as the new season is about to see the bounce of the ball.
 
Heats of the Easter Cup one of the highlights.
Yarram Drycleaners heats was won by Dee Riddler for the Sport 927 Syndicate and Bunyip trainer, Paul Anderton in the best time of 24.89 for the 440m.
Heat 2 going the way of Boney Maronie for Debbie Selleck at Tooradin.
Heat 3 was a win for Pure Grunt with Elgrando Hilton for Yarram’s Blake and Stephen Reed runner up and will contest the big final on Easter Sunday.
 
A special Veterans race on the card was won by 4 year old, Uno Girl with the oldest runner (5 years) Perfect Teddy for Darren Mines at Woodside running unplaced.
Kennelmate Hank was a good second in the GOBIS Maiden Final behind Chloe Jane for Lang Lang mentor, Richard Adderley.

A long weekend, balmy weather and a massive crowd attended Sunday’s Sale Greyhound Club meeting and Yarram father and son, Stephen and Blake Reed would have been the happiest. New to the sport they were given their first greyhound, Elgrando Hilton by Sale’s Carolyn Jones who stands Dad, Elgrando at stud.
Having his 4 th start for the Blakes the family cheered as the 40kg dog finished strongly to win by a neck over the favorite Halipino Harry and Skeeta in 25.27.
Elgrando  Hilton has a home for life!
 
The night also raised needy funds for the Sale Football and Netball Club and players and supporters with races named after sponsors who support both codes.
 
Best backed runner on the night to score was Brindle Biscuit for Morwell trainer, Alex Cooper who got the dog as a giveaway. “Biscuit” won by over 7 lengths in 25.30 for the 440m.
 
Traralgon owner trainer Roy Coleman has a promising pup in Payback Time. The son of Big Daddy Cool-Farlee’s Rose won his Grade 5 by over 4 lengths in 25 seconds even making it 3 wins from 4 starts.
 
Crash Bang Boofy “crashed” quite a few out of the quaddie winning the first leg by 2 lengths over Remo Haven and Tiki Dream.
Trained at Bairnsdale by Greg Kerr the greyhound was unplaced at Traralgon two nights prior after having no luck and paid overs in win number 4 from just 9 starts.
 
Lavvy Drain played up going into the boxes at his previous start at Warragul, missing the start badly, but boxed first at Sale the Brian Selleck trained son of Brett Lee landed on the bunny and scored by 2 lengths in a smart 29.59 for the 520m.

 

"NEW RACE"


The Sale Club have submitted a proposal to Greyhound Racing Victoria to run a new race on the Sale Greyhound calendar. The proposed race is to be over 440m by invitation only, for the highest point scorers on the Sale Greyhound of the Year table and planned to be run on 11th January 2009.
The Committee has allocated a total purse of $10,000 towards this race. This race will reward greyhounds who race and win at Sale on a regular basis.
The Greyhound of the Year runs from the 1st January to 31st December.
