Shrewd punters will have a watchful eye on Megellas Fairy, who is set to make her debut on Sunday night at Sale.
The white and fawn female youngster is a half sister to Gippsland superstar and kennelmate, Jesaulenko (pictured).
“With Megellas Fairy having her first start it means six greyhounds out of Elite Fairy from two different litters will be racing at Sale on Sunday. I bred both litters, so I’m pretty proud that so many of the pups are racing on the one night,” said Traralgon breeder/trainer, Terri Morris.
Terri believes a few of the pups could figure prominently on Sunday evening.
“Jesaulenko is in a tough race, but that won’t worry him. He’s a chance in just about any race he competes in.”
“I wouldn’t like to say that Megellas Fairy will be as good as Jesaulenko – as I wouldn’t place that sort of expectation on any of my pups – but she does have a bit of early speed and is in with a show on Sunday.”
“Another one of the Elite Fairy pups is Conclusive (won two from nine), who we should have a lot of fun with as his career progresses.”
Terri said she has had enormous success breeding with Elite Fairy, including a 100 per cent winning litter from seven pups in the mating that produced Jesaulenko.
She put much of the success down to quality rearing.
“To consistently breed winners so much has to go into the rearing, including really good food, plenty of handling, free-galloping on a daily basis and regular worming.”
“I feed my pups virtually the same as I feed my race dogs including premium beef and science diet, which provides them with the vitamins, minerals and calcium they need.”
“The only difference is I add a bit of extra fat content into my pups’ diets (compared to her race dogs) as greyhounds need a bit of extra fat at a young age, so I’ll include things like a meat pie in their food,” she said.
